At Good Shepherd Community Church we recognize that Children Matter!  They matter to God, to their parents, and to our church.  Our desire is for Good Shepherd to be a place where children are welcome, valued and made to feel that they are important.  It is our distinctive that we have a body-wide Focus on Children.

As a Children's Ministry Team, our hearts' desire is that each child would know God, and have a personal relationship with Jesus.  We believe that ministry to children happens through relationships, and that relationships should come first.  We want to join parents in helping equip their children as they move into adulthood as vital members of society.  Our intent is to connect with each child as we share what God has done and what God has said (Psalm 78:1-4; Deut. 6:6-7).

As a Family-Equipping Ministry, we are committed to coming along side families as they lead their children in faith.  We understand  that is not easy raising children who are engaged in this culture, trying to gracefully represent Christ's love.  We are committed to be there, to encourage, and provide resources to parents as they lead their families with the Gospel of Grace.

Nursery  
The Nursery Department introduces the love of Jesus to the youngest hearts, ages birth to 36 months.  Infants, Toddlers and Preschoolers are nurtured through bible stories, bible-themed crafts, music, game time, and snack time.  There are many great volunteers waiting to love on the little ones.

Early Childhood  
The Early Childhood Ministry is targeted to meet the needs of our 4-year-olds, Pre-K and Kindergartners. Foundational truths are learned from Old Testament and New Testament stories in kid-friendly settings led by fun-loving volunteers.

Early Elementary  
The Early Elementary Ministry (grades 1-2) is using a strategic curriculum formulated specially for the purpose of developing a child's worldview (teaching them to 'do the Bible'). Focusing on the major themes of the Bible, the characteristics of God, and introducing Small Groups into their weekend experience (where personal application and prayer happen), these children are beginning to internalize and understand what they are learning about the Lord and His Word.

Elementary  
The Elementary Ministry (grades 3-5) is both biblically sound and culturally relevant. Church for these kids is a cool place to "hang" with your friends and a place where real life issues are discussed and addressed (according to God's Word, of course!). The Large Group/Small Group experience is designed to give them an opportunity to ask hard questions and talk about how to apply what they've just learned in their lives, in an environment that is safe and ready to provide strong, God-directed answers.

Breakout  

The Breakout Ministry is our mid-week discipleship program that is available for kids in grades 3-6 who choose to dive in and grow deeper spiritually. This is a four-year program that compliments our weekend program and provides more opportunities for spiritual growth, personal accountability and long-term relationships with peers and leaders. Students must pre-register to participate.

Kids Quest  
Kid’s Quest is a small group, discipleship program for children in pre-K through 2nd grade. Using Bible stories, kids will listen, learn, look and live with safari animals as they complete weekly lessons at home and participate in games, crafts and stories during their small group at church. Registration begins in August and the program runs October through May. Call Kathy Skinner at 503-663-5050 x214 with questions.
 

Women's Bible Study (WBS) Kids
Mom to Mom (M2M) Kids		  
Through interactive, age-appropriate teaching, WBS/M2M Kids strive to help children know and love Jesus, use God's word as a filter for understanding life and develop skills for lifelong learning and following. These programs run Mid-September through Mid-May. WBS Kids meets weekly on Wednesdays from 8:45 -11:15 a.m. M2M Kids meets once a month on the 2nd Thursday of the month from 8:45 - 11:30 a.m.  Coordinator:  Tonya Walmer (email)

Women's Bible Study

Starts September 20 & 21

This year in Women’s Bible study we will explore the books of Philippians and Colossians. This study, written by a team of writers within our own Bible study, will illuminate truths from God’s Word that will empower us to be “filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work” (Colossians 1:9-10). Through our study we will be provided with biblical perspectives on subjects such as marriage, family, prayer, and joy, as we come to echo Paul’s plea, “That I may know him” (Philippians 3:10).

Each week, we begin our time together with worship and teaching, followed by discussion time in small groups. These small groups are a wonderful blend of younger and older women who each have so much to offer each other. The friendships that are built during this time together are unique and long lasting.

Cost for registration is $20.00
We will be using the ESV study Bible this year.
Three time options (see below) are available to meet the needs of varying schedules.

From September through May:
Early Edition: Tuesday mornings from 6:00 am - 7:15 am
Evening Edition: Tuesday evenings from 7:00 pm - 8:45 pm
**Morning Edition: Wednesday mornings from 9:00 am - 11:30 am
**Children's program is available for the Wednesday Morning Edition.

Mom to Mom
Mom to Mom is a Christ-centered community for mothers of young children (0-5 years).  Our focus is on laying a foundation of biblical teaching on marriage, parenting and personal growth for women who are cultivating the hearts of the next generation.  We meet monthly on the second Thursday of the month from 9:15 am - 11:00 am, September - May for teaching and fellowship.  Children's program available for infants - 5 years. We would love to have you join us!

Harvest Moon Bazaar

The Harvest Moon Bazaar is a highlight of the fall at Good shepherd Community Church.  See the worship center transformed for a weekend of shopping and holiday fun.  This annual event is advertised area-wide and is a rare opportunity to invite the entire community into our church.  More than 70 vendors of quality, hand crafted items bring their best to show and sell at our bazaar.
